COB Welcomes New Faculty

Three new members joined the UAFS College of Business (COB) faculty this fall, two in finance and one in marketing. Drs. Ca Nguyen (finance), Omer C. Kutlubay (marketing), and Alejandro "Alex" Pacheco (finance) began their tenures with the start of the fall term.

Dr. Ashok Subramanian, dean of the College of Business, stated, “We’re very pleased to be able to bring these three young academics onboard. They bring a wealth of current knowledge in their respective fields, as well as an enthusiasm that new faculty can bring to our college.”

Subramanian noted that the quality of candidates for these three positions was very high and that he was “delighted to welcome these three great additions to our faculty.“

In his own words:

My name is Alejandro Pacheco, though I have always preferred being called Alex since middle school. I’ve lived in Miami, Florida, for most of my life. I was born in Peru, so I do speak Spanish and have a deep appreciation for the Hispanic culture and cuisine. Living in Miami has made me particularly fond of Cuban food, for example.”

Research/Teaching Interests: Research interests tend toward any topic that he finds thought provoking in the business world

At the moment his research has primarily focused on the banking sector of the United States as he finds the current competitive environment between for-profit commercial banks and non-profit credit unions interesting. He is also working with co-authors on vastly different projects, such as crypto currency, international currency futures, and tax policy implications for businesses.

Teaching interests tend toward the quantitative side of finance. Courses on valuation, capital budgeting, portfolio management, and investments are what interest him the most.

Current teaching assignment: money, banking and financial markets and capital budgeting

The college recruitment cycle last year was brought to successful conclusion in three of four searches undertaken. Only the accounting position remains to be filled at this time, according to the College.
